Edit: Since asked, my favorite word is "myriad". It has great promise, a useful word for diversity, and is just a pleasant word to say.
First, I'm temporarily banning
Second, if you think some one is becoming too harsh, then just message me. I'll handle it, I promise.
Third, I'm not too happy about the last post, but instead of taking it down, I'm going to leave it up for discussion. But, here are some points I'd like to make:
- Of all the users, I'm probably the one with the most mistakes. I do not want to prevent people from posting for fear of being reamed. Correction is always expected, but there is no need to keep score. If you must, then I start with "+infinity".
- If you want to put a new rule to this forum, please do so through me.
- This community is (currently) in support of all versions of English. I, for one, went to New Zealand for my post-graduate schooling and still, to this day, will alternate between British and Standard American English. It happens. I've found that most people who use British English in a pretentious manner do so with improper usage. And that is something you can freely comment on.
- Finally, watch the snipping at each other. If you're going to make me read the forum more often, then the least you could do is be wittier and amuse me while you're doing it. "Uh-huh" and "Uh-uh" arguments are a bit trite.
My supervisor (the head of the English faculty at the school) e-mailed me to say, amongst other things:
"I'd love to see how your going with your programs."
That all members use proper grammar, including sentence structure and spelling, to the best of their abilities.
That I have to even THINK about suggesting this as a rule is a bit mind-blowing, given the community. Still: first rule of common sense and all.
One little compliment can make you feel amazing. So give me a compliment, anything in the entire world, even that my shoelaces are pretty. Put this in your journal. And once you get some comments, put that entry in a memory or tag and when you are feeling down, just go to that entry and this will remind that you're not so bad in other people's eyes after all.
I don't know how to make comments anonymous, so it might take me a minute.
Burn

anyways, i don't have to tell you that the dark knight is amazing and you should see it as soon as possible

She put in this snippet:
"What confuses most people is the fact that it's a strength hero and seems like a late gamer by a first glance, but he is not, even in despite the fact that he has high strength gain. He is more like a caster."
I mean, maybe her native language isn't English, but I actually messaged her to correct it and gave her a grammatically correct version, and she A: misinterpreted this as me wanting her to write the sentence as if it was not there originally, and then when I specified that it was for grammatical corrections, I got an "ok 'sure'."
Considering that she writes articles for a decently major company, shouldn't she A: eat some humble pie, and B: learn how to write?
I can't decide which witty pun to insert here, so I'll let you invent your own.

Ж-Men...but not the ones you might expect!
This week LJ Russia launched Ж-Men, a new comedy series about superheroes, inspired by the LJ communities dedicated to superheros, comics and cartoons. The title's "Ж" comes from ЖЖ, the nickname for LiveJournal in Russia.
Ж-Men's script is written by a group of LJ enthusiasts who also happen to be television professionals. Who knew? Following the premiere, five more episodes will be broadcast over the next two weeks. We hope you find the series fresh and enjoyable.
This is, of course, an experiment for LiveJournal. As always, we'd love to hear what you think!
Become an active member of the Codexed community by not only signing up for a Codexed account, but also join our forums if you have not done so already. As well, we will be looking for people to help with various non-coding aspects of Codexed development in the near future, so if this is something you might be interested, keep an eye out.
I think "as well" is awkward at the beginning of the sentence but I'm not sure if it's wrong or if it's all right.
In addition, it should probably be "joining our forums" instead of "join our forums", and they've forgotten an "in" after "something you might be interested" (or "something in which you might be interested", if you believe in the preposition rule). There are probably many things that can be done to improve the above paragraph, but the main thing that bothers me is the "as well".
So what do you think?
Hi, I'm Robert. I'm relatively new to this community. I care about my language.
I just saw CNN's John Roberts say this:
"Statistics show that less than half of the black students in the inner cities will graduate."
I try not to flip out, but this is a professional journalist speaking to millions of persons ABOUT EDUCATION, and he seems not to know that FEWER than half WILL BE GRADUATED.
Is it me? Should I just decide not to care? I continually face the argument that "language is changing", therefore I'm supposed to accept that anything goes, there are no rules.
But I don't. I think we have rules for a reason, and that reason is to communicate effectively. If we don't even know what we are saying or why, not only can't we communicate, but we look like ignorami.
Finally, preparations for Act 5 are complete. I just need Ray so that I can record it. XD
Fall-T
I'm looking for the name of a poem (it might actually be a short story of sorts). In it, the narrator justifies the murder of Caesar, explaining that the mighty ruler has forgotten that he too was once a commoner and that his death is necessary.
I hope you'll forgive me asking this here, but I've been browsing without results for a half an hour now. All I've found is Julius Caesar, the play, but that's not what I'm looking for. Thanks for any help offered in advance.
